How roles work on The Key Support
Each person has their own account, registered under their own email address (school email highly recommended).
Your email address can be linked to more than one school or membership. It does this through roles.
What is a role?
A role is how your account is connected to a school, trust, or organisation.
This means one email address can be linked to multiple schools at the same time, with a separate role for each one.
For example, if you are an Executive Headteacher working across more than one school, you might have:
a Leader role at School A
a Leader role at School B
Why roles matter
What you can access depends on:
the role you are using
the membership that school has
So, access is based on the school’s membership, not the individual person.
Example
If:
School A has a Leaders membership
School B has a Whole School membership
Then:
when you are using your School A role, you can access Leaders content only
when you are using your School B role, you can access Whole School content, including Safeguarding, CPD, Governance, and Leaders
So even though you are the same person using the same email address, your access can change depending on which role you are currently viewing.
Why am I being asked to confirm my role?
If you do not yet have a role linked to a school, we will ask you to:
confirm your role
link your account to a school
This is because every account must be linked to at least one school or organisation.
How to add another role
If you need to link your account to another school or organisation:
Go to Manage my account
Select Join another organisation
Follow the steps to add your new role
How to switch roles
To switch between your roles:
Select your name in the top right
Click the downward arrow
Choose Switch organisations
You can then select the school or organisation you want to view.
Important to know
Your email address stays the same
Your account stays the same
Your access changes depending on the role and organisation you are viewing
Each account must be linked to at least one school or organisation
